Snow Sports in the Bancroft District
A Family Affair
Experience
a "Mineral Capital" Winter. The Bancroft area
and surrounding district are favoured with old-fashioned
winters and an abundance of snow.
Snowmobiling
Bancroft and North Hastings are fast becoming Central
Ontario's preferred snowmobiling destination.
The area is ideally located in the rolling hills of the
York River Valley and boasts over 2000 km of groomed trails
in all directions. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile
Clubs (OFSC) maintains trail grooming throughout the winter. Ample parking for vehicles is available in towns and villages
along the trails. A valid Ontario Federation of Snowmobile
Clubs permit is required to travel on these trails. Permits
are available from the Bancroft & District Chamber
of Commerce office or from many businesses throughout
the area.
Regular snowfalls and low temperatures, mostly between
mid-January and late March make an ideal snowmobiling
season. The OFSC trails lead to gas, meals , accommodation
and entertainment along the snowmobile routes. Repair
services, sales and parts are generally available for
most machines.
Skiing
Silent Lake Provincial Park off Highway 28, just south
of Paudash, offers over 40 kilometres of groomed and track-set
cross-country ski trails through picturesque woodlands.
Ski rentals and instruction are available at the Park.
Algonquin Park and the Whitney area also has excellent
groomed trails for the whole family to enjoy.
Many "wilderness bushwhacking" trails are available
throughout the Bancroft/North Hastings area for your pleasure.
Hidden in the Hills of Haliburton Sir Sam's Ski Area with
12 downhill Ski Runs and a Snowboard Hill, will fulfill
your dreams. Open Saturday Dec. 7, 2003 Sir Sam's can
provide lesson's , rental equipment and a fully licensed
Cafeteria/Lounge/Pub for your pleasure.

with an 800 metre track just east of the Town. Bronze

sport of luge involves racing down an icy track in a prone
position on a small sled. Steering is accomplished with
the use of the legs and by shifting body weight. Bronze
metal winner trainer/coach.
Luge events are held each winter during February and March.
The club provides rentals and lessons for those wishing
to experience luge. Schools welcome
.
Dog Sledding
Capture the exhilarating experience of whisking through
snowy wilderness via dog sled. A number of local businesses
offer expeditions lasting an hour, a day, or a weekend.
Experience the fun for yourself or simply come out and
cheer on the mushers at the Bancroft Sled Dog Races, held
each year on the third Saturday of February.
